One Month Update After Planting Radishes And Red-Cabbage
At the beginning of May 2024, I purchased a tray of radish and red cabbage plants to plant in my backyard. I hadn’t grown either of them before, and it’s currently late into autumn where I live, which also happens to be in a tropical climate.
The photograph below was taken the day I transplanted them into the ground. I had six red cabbages and eight raddishes.

Unfortunately, some of the stray cats that live around my property dug up and destroyed one of the red cabbage plants.
I suspect that the fertilizer I used to enrich the soil attracted them to use it as a toilet, I guess.
I took some precautions to save the rest of them from being dug up.
It’s been four weeks since I planted all of them and I’m happy to report that they are growing and look healthy!
The verdict is still out on whether these red cabbage plants will produce heads of cabbages but the radishes are thriving.
They’ve grown in size and the leaves look healthier and larger than before.
Here’s a look at some photographs I snapped yesterday.

I’m really happy to see the progress they’ve made but I’ll wait another month to see if the cabbages begin to form a head.
If they don’t, I’ll have to do some research to figure out what could be preventing that from happening.
Perhaps, the weather isn’t conducive for growth or the soil isn’t ideal.
As for the radishes, I’m going to leave them in the ground until the end of June and then I’ll pull them out because I’ve heard that 60 days is more than enough time for the raddishes to grow to their full potential.
Look out for that update and if you have any suggestions on caring for my red cabbage plants, please let me know because I really want them to grow!
