How To Grow Mint In A Plastic Bottle
Have you considered the possibility of growing herbs like mint in a plastic bottle? It’s such a convenient and cheap way to start a garden inside or outside your home. My father came up with this idea to help those who don’t have much space in their garden or those who live in apartments. Let’s talk about how to grow mint in a plastic bottle.
The process was simple and only required an empty 2L soda bottle and a screwdriver to poke holes into the bottle.
Then, we inserted shoots of mint into each hole and filled the bottle with loose, soft, and fine potting soil until all the roots were submerged and secure.
We left some space at the top of the bottle for water and inserted a wire through the top so that we could create a hanger for this bottle planter.
Once secured, we were able to hang them anywhere in the yard. If we didn’t want to hang them, they could sit on countertops, walls, or floors because we didn’t cut or remove the base of the bottle.
To our surprise, it worked amazingly.
As you can see from the images below, the mint shoots grew and produced ample leaves from this bottle planter!
You can also grow other herbs like basil, parsley, and cilantro using this method. For larger plants or flowers, you can flip the bottle around the cut out the base. Keep the cap so that you can close the other bottle opening. But, you will be forced to use it as a hanging bottle planter.

If you hang this bottle planter outdoors, the narrow opening will allow enough water to enter the bottle when it rains.
But there’s a possibility of waterlogging, so keep that in mind when choosing a location.
I think that this is the perfect project to do with kids that doesn’t require much maintenance of money to complete.
